Introduction

The February 2026 Euroscope, conducted by Polling Europe in collaboration with OpinionWay and SWG, reveals key dynamics in European public opinion regarding international politics, EU issues, and market matters.

  • Perception of the USA-EU Conflict: A majority of Europeans (47%) believe that the current conflict between the United States and the EU is a critical phase that will end when Donald Trump is no longer president. However, a significant portion (25%) views it as a historic rupture of the transatlantic alliance.
  • International Relations and Country Perception: The United Kingdom (61%) and Japan (60%) are perceived as the most “friendly” countries towards the EU.Conversely, Russia (70% “unfriendly”) and Iran (63% “unfriendly”) are the most negatively perceived.
  • Assessment of Donald Trump: President Donald Trump receives an overall negative evaluation from Europeans, with an average rating of 3.1 out of 10 (64% negative opinions).
  • EU Stance on Trump’s Leadership: Europeans consider the EU’s stance towards Donald Trump’s leadership to be “uncoordinated” and “hesitant” (22% for each response).
  • Potential Effect of US Action in Greenland: 52% of Europeans believe that a US action in Greenland would have a negative effect on NATO cohesion. 41% believe it would have a negative effect on the cohesion of the European Union.
  • Participation in a Peacekeeping Force in Ukraine: 64% of Europeans are in favor of their country participating in a peacekeeping force in Ukraine after the war.
  • Europe’s Priorities for Strengthening its International Position: “Greater unity among member states” is considered the top priority (28%) for the EU to become stronger and more competitive on the international stage.
  • Investment Energy Sources: Solar energy (54%) and wind energy (41%) are the main energy sources in which Europeans wish the EU would invest more.
  • Introduction of the Digital Euro: Opinions are divided regarding the Digital Euro: 32% see it as a positive change, while 31% consider it a negative change.
  • Ban on Chinese Companies in European 5G Networks: 50% of Europeans are in favor of banning Chinese companies from accessing European 5G networks for security reasons.
  • Comprehensiveness of Food & Beverage Labeling: A majority of Europeans (54%) believe that food and beverage labeling only “partially” provides all necessary information.

This study provides valuable insights into the sentiments and expectations of European citizens regarding current global and European challenges.
