Introduction

Equans, a global leader in energy and services, has released—for the second consecutive year—the results of its international survey on decarbonization and adaptation among industrial SMEs and mid-market companies, conducted by OpinionWay among 1,861 industrial decision-makers.

Following an initial 2025 edition focused on Europe, this new wave expands its scope to include the United States and Canada.

It confirms a two-phase transformation: decarbonization is now widely accepted in terms of perception, and scaling up is gradually taking place, while adaptation is emerging as an industrial necessity.

Key takeaways include:

  • 41% of companies report that they are operational or in the process of implementing adaptation measures.
  • 94% of industrial executives believe that decarbonizing industry is necessary to address the climate emergency.
  • 49% of companies report that they are currently operational or in the process of implementing their decarbonization strategy.
